“Are you all right?” a feminine voice inquired.

I looked up to see Talia and realized my cheeks were wet. I was crying like some little bitch teeny-bopper out of a goddamn Taylor Swift video. Jesus Christ, when had I been reduced to this?

I carefully wiped my cheeks, careful not to smudge my waterproof mascara but one could never be too sure. “I’m fine.”

Talia continued to stare at me as if she actually felt sorry for me and I would rather have been hated than pitied. What a useless fucking emotion pity was and she didn’t know me. She couldn’t possibly understand what I was going through.

She finally sat beside me and sipped from her mojito. “You don’t look it. Is Kaz putting you through an emotional hurricane? It looks like it from where I’m sitting.”

I sat up and glared at her with cold eyes. “Kaz and I are fine. I can assure you he’s not doing anything to me.”

“Hey, I’m from south Boston so don’t you ever try to bullshit a bullshitter. Your heart is a pulp beating in your chest and you don’t know whether you’re coming or going. One minute, you’re flying high and the next, you feel like the lowest piece of dog shit on earth. I know what you’re going through because I’ve been going through it with Seth since my sophomore year at Vassar. The man drives me absolutely crazy and I love and hate him at the same time.”

Her candid honesty was too close to home but would I admit it to myself let alone her?

“Yeah, that pretty much sums up my feelings for him,” I whispered as I picked invisible lint from my black cocktail dress.

“Want some advice? Whether you want it or not, I’m gonna give it to you anyway. Kaz and Seth are kindred spirits except he hides his through endless sexual escapades and my lover’s favorite escape is a combination of cocaine and Oxy. They are damaged goods and sometimes…you have to know when to let go and do what is best for you.”

She paused and set her right hand on my own folded in my lap. “I know you can’t leave the tour because you’re the official photographer. Concentrate on that and make him come to you. Don’t you dare fucking beg him for anything. He’s just going to get meaner and uglier to you as the tour goes on and you’ll be packing your bags the moment you’ve set foot back in his L.A. pad. Don’t ever make a man the center of your universe because the moment you do, they take that pulp of a heart you have and squeeze until they have used up the best of you. Do you want to take that bitter, evil bitch you will become after the fact into your future relationships?”

Kaz laughed out loud. “Babe, you’re young. That ex-wife of mine is doing a documentary…are you any good with cameras?”

“You mean taking photos? I suppose so since I went to all the best schools and took a photography class. I can do the old-school photos where you have to soak them in solution but I prefer a digital camera to be honest. All you need is a laptop and you’re good to go.”

“Then stop being so hard on yourself because you do have skill. We usually hire a professional photographer because we like to document our concerts but you take the photos. Nothing that could get us into trouble but just candid shots. We usually then bundle them and make a book out of them. They’re a swag gift for hard-core fans…we don’t do it for the money. And of course it’s great to see how much we have changed over the years.”

His mouth had moved closer to mine the longer he’d spoken and when he was within reach, he kissed my lips and I immediately responded with an open mouth and accepted his tongue in my mouth. I tasted Macallan 30 but it was pleasant and sensual.

Kaz ended the kiss reluctantly. “What’s wrong with you sitting on your ass all day waiting for me to fuck you if I may ask?”

“Don’t be crude. I’d feel like a kept woman and I want to contribute…is that so bad? I suppose that is why I am jealous of your ex-wife. She’s got all this stuff going on and she must think I am some stupid, rich bimbo.”

“Those were her words more or less but why would you care what she thinks of you?”

I smiled slightly. “Because she still holds your heart and she’s the mother of your child. That means she can directly influence how he would feel about me…it’s a little scary because understand all this is new to me. I have never been in a relationship before and I don’t know what’s kosher and what isn’t? When do we move past the fucking stage into something more? What if you get tired of me and just want to offload me? That would devastate me because I am feeling so full of angst and indecision. I’m not good when I don’t know what to expect.”

Kaz’s hands slipped lower and caressed my collar bone before he slid my tube top down to reveal my breasts. “First of all, Damira doesn’t hold my heart anymore…I think I used her as a crutch. I didn’t want to hate her so I told myself I was still in love with her to lessen the pain. She’s Xander’s mother and I don’t want him growing up as fucked up as I did. It broke my heart and I somehow felt it was my fault my dad despised my mother with a passion.”

“What happened?” I wondered out loud.

“No more fucking small talk. I just want to fuck you right here, Syd.”

Kaz turned away from me but it had more to do with what he was thinking about rather than avoiding my gaze. “We have two well-known druggies on tour. They have relapsed after very expensive rehab stays and this could pose as an issue.”

“Don’t drugs and rock stars usually go together?” I tried to make a joke out of it but the way he looked at me when our eyes met told me loud and clear he wasn’t buying what I was selling.

“It’s a little 80s and 90s of a concept, yes, but at one time, most rockers and hip hop stars used drugs and didn’t even hide their addictions. Just so you know I am not some health freak, I have no problem with drugs—I’d rather not use them because I have a fairly straight forward personality. I loved getting high when we first made it but it got old and it was no longer fun. I stopped using cold turkey.

“I might have the odd hit off a joint every now and then because I have a weakness for well-grown marijuana but I don’t do anything harder than that. It’s my policy—not Introspect Records. They couldn’t give a crap what we did as long as we performed our jobs to the best of our abilities and didn’t go on stage noticeably high where people would make comments and the rumor mills would start.”

I played with several strands of my hair. “I take it these members you are talking about aren’t recreational users, then?”

“No. I mean, they pretty much have addiction issues. They do coke to function and then they take hillbilly heroin to come down. The worst part is the OxyContin is prescribed by our tour physician so if they are caught with it, they won’t get busted. They aren’t stupid enough to carry coke on them, especially when the physician gives them Adderall or Ritalin. It’s not as good as cocaine but it will do in a pinch and it’s legal. Plus Jaden has a lifetime prescription since he was diagnosed with ADHD when he was ten.”

I suddenly stood and began to pace. “Damn. Does Faith know?”

Falling Into Us News!

Hello to all my wicked beautiful people! I just wanted to announce the good news I have already shared on my Facebook page here! Falling Into Us will be novel length and although I have said in the past these books would always remain $2.99, I will debut the book at this price for the first week. This is for all the readers who have been into the series since it premiered! The price will then be raised to $3.99, the usual price I charge for novel length work.

And now, here is the gorgeous cover for the next book in the series!

Kudos to my cover artist, Stephanie Nelson, who managed to take photos I fell in love with well over a year ago and transform them since this couple has been used more than the Greyhound Bus! 

I will keep you updated and this book will still premiere this month but probably at the end of the month instead of the third week!

Thanks again to all my fans who fell in love with this series and recognized potential in an author who is not well known except by my handful of fans for who I have been relatively and overwhelming grateful to have. You women (and men) are amazing and I love you all for sticking with me. Just know this series is truly for you and I hope I do this particular genre justice.
